Redland-Raised Passion Fruit (Purple)
This tropical fruit is a type of berry. It is the fruit of the Passiflora vine, a type of passion flower. It has a tough outer rind and juicy, seed-filled center that is ripe when wrinkled. There are several types, which can vary in size and color. The most commonly available are the purple and yellow varieties. Available June to December.
Redland-Raised Persian Lime
Yep, this juicy bright beautiful lime is grown right here in Redland. Available year round.
Longan should be eaten in the first 3-5 days and refrigerated after receiving. Longan is a tropical tree that produces edible fruit. It is one of the better-known tropical members of the soapberry family (Sapindaceae), to which the lychee also belongs. Included in the soapberry family are the lychee, rambutan, guarana, korlan, pitomba, Genip and ackee. Longan is commonly associated with lychee, which is similar in structure but has an aromatic sweet taste with a bit of spice. It is native to Asia but grows excellent in Redland. This is an early season example that is more firm and subtle in taste, though later in the season will be larger and more flavorful.
Available late July through September.
Redland-Raised Avocado (West Indian)
Avocado varieties are classified in three groups, known as West Indian, Guatemalan and Mexican.West Indian avocados originated in the tropical lowland areas of southern Mexico and Central America, the Guatemalan and Mexican avocados originated in mid-altitude highlands in Guatemala and Mexico. Different varieties available from late May to March. Make sure you wait until your avocados are ripe. You can tell when you squeeze it and the skin is no longer firm, but rather soft to the touch. If you cut it open early it will be rubbery and have a bitter taste—be patient and remember it is fresh picked so takes a few days to ripen.
A unique, tropical tree fruit with an interior texture that is both creamy and sweet, the vibrant salmon-colored flesh of the ‘Pantin’ mamey sapote is unlike anything most people have ever tasted.
